Youth director is leaving CTG
Corey Madden, producing director of Center Theatre Group’s youth program and a former associate artistic director of the Mark Taper Forum, will leave the company in June, CTG announced Tuesday.
During her 22-year tenure at CTG, Madden was involved with the Taper’s mainstage productions and new play development programs. As head of the Performing for Los Angeles Youth (P.L.A.Y) program for the last seven years, she commissioned and presented works for young audiences by such contemporary artists as Danny Hoch, Will Power, Charlayne Woodard, Doug Cooney, David O and Jose Cruz Gonzalez.
“The opportunities I’m being offered out of the building just began to be so delicious that I felt I needed to follow my instincts and move in that direction,” Madden said Tuesday.
Madden will direct the world premiere of the children’s opera “Keepers of the Night,” an L.A. Children’s Chorus commission to be conducted by Master Chorale music director Grant Gershon in July. She is also working on a dance theater piece with choreographer and Diavolo Dance Theatre founder-artistic director Jacques Heim at UC San Diego, where she will be teaching as a guest artist.
Charles Dillingham, CTG managing director, said Madden will continue to consult with the company and will represent CTG in forging a relationship with the arts high school that is planned as part of the downtown revitalization Grand Avenue Project.
“We’re sorry to see her go, but we wish her the best with the various projects that she already has lined up,” he said.
A spokeswoman said CTG will conduct a national search for Madden’s successor.
