Klitschko retains his titles with TKO victory
Wladimir Klitschko beat Lamon Brewster on a technical knockout after six rounds Saturday at Cologne, Germany, to successfully defend his International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Union heavyweight titles.
Klitschko, who weighed 244 pounds, clearly dominated the first five rounds, making repeated contact with his strong left jab that largely went unanswered.
Brewster, 228, seemed to be standing up to the constant punishment, but two left-right combinations in the sixth round hurt him.
Before the seventh could start, Brewster’s trainer slapped his towel on the canvas and referee Sam Williams stopped the fight.
Klitschko improved to 48-3 with 44 knockouts. Brewster fell to 33-4 with 29 knockouts.
Brewster was returning after a yearlong absence following his loss to Sergei Liakhovich in April 2006 during which he suffered a detached retina in his left eye that required surgery.
