Some women can get Zelnorm again
From Times Wire Reports
Some women can regain access to a constipation drug withdrawn after being linked to a higher risk of heart attack and stroke, federal officials said.
Women younger than 55 with irritable bowel syndrome and chronic constipation who meet specific guidelines will be allowed access to Zelnorm, the Food and Drug Administration said. The drug remains off the market for general use.
The agency noted that it had previously asked Swiss pharmaceutical Novartis to suspend sales of the prescription drug because of the health risks.
