Bush as Lincoln? That’s comic
Re “Gen. Pelosi?” editorial, March 12
The quality of thinking evident in The Times’ editorials continues to plummet precipitously. Comparisons of President Bush’s self-inflicted quandary in Iraq with Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower at Normandy or President Lincoln in the Civil War belong on the comics pages, not in a serious discussion of U.S. policy. Get serious.

Do we need a Gen. Pelosi? Hugely preferable to a Gen. Bush.

This editorial states, “The president needs the leeway to threaten, or negotiate with, Sunnis and Shiites and Kurds, Syrians and Iranians and Turks.” Threaten Iran and Syria? Am I hallucinating? I went outside to see if the sun was rising over the Pacific this morning. No, it is still rising from the east. What happened? Was The Times’ sale completed over the weekend?
