The article “Paradise Discovered” [March 11] may have presented too rosy a picture of the political situation in Nicaragua when talking about purchasing property in an apparently idyllic setting of unspoiled beaches and quaint fishing villages.

Granted that Nicaragua has enjoyed peace and has been a constitutional democracy for more than a decade, but it would behoove anyone considering investing in real estate there to remember Nicaragua has had a history in the not-too-distant past of seizing private property.

In 1993 I drove from Los Angeles to Costa Rica. That is when I discovered Nicaragua, and I have gone back every year since. I now own property in Las Salinas, Rivas, Nicaragua. I support an adopted family.

Nicaragua is poor, but the people are the best and will give you the shirt off their backs. Thanks for the nice article.
