Mao Anqing, 84; only surviving son of Chinese leader Mao Tse-tung

Mao Anqing, 84, the only surviving son of China’s revolutionary leader Mao Tse-tung, died Friday, the official China News Service reported. It did not give a cause of death.
Mao Anqing, who had no role in government, suffered from psychiatric problems and is believed to have spent much of his adult life in mental hospitals.
He was born in 1923, the second son of Mao and his first wife, Yang Kaihui, also an activist. Yang was executed in 1930 by the then-ruling Nationalist government.
In 1936, Mao Anqing and his older brother, Anying, were sent to Paris and then Moscow. They returned in 1947, two years before the Communists ousted the Nationalists.
Mao Anying was killed in the Korean War. Mao Tse-tung died in 1976.
