Illegal sect hunted in villagers’ deaths
From Times Wire Reports
A banned religious sect is terrorizing villagers on the outskirts of Kenya’s capital, leaving a trail of beheaded corpses.
Police said they have arrested seven people and launched a manhunt to quash the Mungiki, which emerged in the 1990s, inspired by the Mau Mau rebellion against colonial rule. The group was officially banned in 2002.
Mungiki members are suspected in the deaths of at least 12 people in the last three months -- including six found mutilated or beheaded since Sunday.
