Recall campaign expensive, futile
Re “Group begins bid to recall Weiss,” May 23
So recall campaigner Mike Eveloff was OK with Century City development when he could squeeze $5 million from the developers to spend as he pleased, but antidevelopment and anti-Weiss when Los Angeles City Councilman Jack Weiss steps in to make sure that the money is allocated to homeowner groups and neighborhood councils and that it is spent in a way that ensures accountability. Let the NIMBYs led by such a hypocrite fail in their effort to put the city through the pointless expense of a recall vote for a councilman who was reelected in 2005 by an overwhelming majority and won’t seek another term. There must be a better way to grind axes.

This does not seem to be a case concerning Westside development that would relate to the term NIMBY, or “Not in my backyard.” Rather it seems to be a case of NIMBYUIGAPOTA, or “Not in my backyard unless I get a piece of the action.”
