Why not living roofs for DIYers?

Re: “The Art of the Living Roof,” Nov. 1: I love the quote from the president and founder of the membership association for the green roof industry: “But we’re not talking about a technology where you can go to Home Depot and do it yourself.” Give me a break, please. Could this have been a self-serving statement? Then you bring in two people who have to hire a building contractor and a landscape contractor to put a garden on an “ordinary patio roof.”

I know this is the land of the helpless and the wealthy, but how about a bone for the rest of us, those of us who build our own sheds and patios and also like the idea of roof gardens? You could follow this with an article on roof gardens for do-it-yourself poor people.
