Who better to test the Celtics than the Lakers?

With Boston off to its best start since the team with John Havlicek and Dave Cowens started 10-0 in 1972, the Lakers will be in town Friday in a nostalgic moment for older fans.

The Celtics, who supposedly had problems with their middle-aged Big Three -- Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen -- and thin supporting cast, are 8-0. Even more impressive, they’ve won by an average of 15 points, almost doubling the 8.2 margin of No. 2 New Orleans.

Of course, it has been 20 years since the last time the Lakers and Celtics met in the NBA Finals, and things have changed since 1987.

In February when the Lakers beat the downtrodden Celtics, 122-96, in the TD North Garden or whatever they called it then, Boston fans chanted “MVP!” for Kobe Bryant.

Bryant should be prepared for something more traditional this trip.
