When you need to unwind, try a twist

Here’s a fun, easy-to-follow exercise that you can do anywhere, any time. It helps loosen up your back after prolonged sitting and offers a release from stress and tension.

-- Karen Voight

1 Sit upright on a firm, flat surface -- a chair, a bench or, sitting cross-legged, on the floor. Cross your elbows and rest a hand on each shoulder. Raise your elbows slightly. Inhale and reach toward the ceiling with the crown of your head.

2 On an exhale, twist your upper body right. Hips, knees, thighs and toes should remain facing forward. Hold for a moment. Relax your shoulders. Return to the center, inhale and repeat to the other side on each exhale. Continue for 30 seconds or until your back feels limber.
