Oregon victory could be costly

Oregon’s victory over Washington State on Saturday at Eugene, Ore., came at a high cost -- receiver Cameron Colvin and running back Jeremiah Johnson left with injuries and each could miss the rest of the season.

Dennis Dixon threw for 287 yards and three touchdowns and the No. 9 Ducks handed the Cougars their fourth consecutive loss, 53-7.

Dixon also ran for a touchdown for Oregon, 5-1 overall, 2-1 in the Pacific 10 Conference.

Colvin broke his ankle early in the game and Johnson injured his right knee after scoring two touchdowns.

“Those are serious blows,” Coach Mike Bellotti said.

“Our depth will be tested, but I have confidence that we will still be able to do the things we want to do.”

Johnson was set to have an MRI exam today, but Bellotti said the “damage is probably extensive.”

Washington State (2-5, 0-4), which has lost four in a row, has a bye week before playing host to UCLA.

No. 14 Arizona State 44, Washington 20 -- The Sun Devils, who trailed by four points at halftime, poured it on late at Tempe, Ariz., behind a 76-yard touchdown run by Keegan Herring and a 57-yard touchdown run by Dimitri Nance.

Arizona State (7-0, 4-0) has outscored its opponents, 136-29, in the second half.

Washington (2-4, 0-3) has lost four in a row.

Texas Christian 38, Stanford 36 -- Aaron Brown scored on a short run with 4:13 remaining and Robert Henson batted away Tavita Pritchard’s fourth-down pass to secure the Horned Frogs’ nonconference victory at Stanford (2-4).

Redshirt freshman Andy Dalton threw for 344 yards and two touchdowns as Texas Christian (4-3) ended a two-game slide.
