Lower fares? Well, sometimes
Searching for a cheap ticket to the East, I came across cFares.com, a site that promises “below-market fares.”
What’s hot: It offers two levels of membership: gold (free) and platinum ($50). You see a fare you like, click, and you’ll be routed to the seller.
What’s not: If you are a free gold member and buy a platinum fare, a $50 annual membership will be tacked onto your fare. On my search (LAX to Newark), platinum fares were $17 cheaper than the one I bought at Continental ($312.80). Gold fares (at Airfare.com) were $25 higher, with $66.18 in taxes and fees.
