Several have commented on how Mr. Vick deserves a second chance. I’m all for that. However, I don’t think he should ever be allowed to play professional football. That would send the wrong message yet again to young people. No, I think Mr. Vick’s next job on his way to a second chance should be working as a cage cleaner at his local dog shelter.

I don’t know USC’s coach Todd McNair, but after reading about his inhumane treatment of dogs I would strongly urge the school to terminate the man. Another “mistake”? People who are entertained by inflicting pain on helpless animals are sick. They are certainly not the kind of people we need to have supervising our young people, our students, or anyone else.

OK, this Michael Vick dog thing is getting way out of hand and Bruins Nation has way too much time on its hands. USC assistant coach Todd McNair was convicted 14 years ago of mistreating dogs and also served community service.

Pete Carroll calls Todd McNair’s involvement in animal cruelty a “non-issue.” You then wonder what Carroll would regard as an issue. A fumbled snap from center? Jumping offside? Blown pass coverage in the secondary?

Don’t you just love these coaches who manage to find threadbare excuses for criminal behavior on the part of their players and staff? Surely there are any number of assistant coaches, without baggage, who perform admirably in any athletic program. Go find them, Mike Garrett and Dan Guerrero.
