at New York 3, Atlanta 2: David Wright hit a two-run homer and Oliver Perez (14-9) outpitched Tim Hudson (15-8) to help the Mets win their fourth game in a row. The Braves fell five games behind front-running San Diego in the National League wild-card race. Perez was cruising until Jeff Francoeur singled in the seventh inning and Brian McCann hit a two-run homer with two out.
Arizona 5, at San Francisco 3: Jeff Salazar didn’t start because of a bad ankle but came up with a go-ahead, three-run, pinch-hit homer in the ninth inning. Salazar’s two career homers have come as a pinch-hitter against the Giants, with the previous one Sept. 18, 2006, while with the Colorado Rockies.
at Philadelphia 6, Colorado 5 (10 innings): Ryan Howard doubled home Chase Utley with the winning run in the 10th inning after Pat Burrell tied the score with a homer in the seventh.
at Pittsburgh 9, Milwaukee 0: Tony Armas (4-5) gave up three singles over six innings, and Nate McLouth’s two-run homer carried the Pirates. Armas was winless as a starter this season until Aug. 1.
Washington 5, at Florida 4: Wily Mo Pena homered twice and Shawn Hill (4-3) pitched six solid innings for the Nationals. Dan Uggla and Mike Jacobs homered for Florida, which has lost three in a row.
at Chicago 12, St. Louis 3: Aramis Ramirez hit two home runs to help Ted Lilly (15-7) match a career high for victories.
