Fire burns 100 acres in the high desert
A brush fire burned at least 100 acres in the high desert north of Los Angeles on Tuesday, threatening several structures and forcing the evacuation of animals in the area, officials said.
The blaze was reported about 3 p.m. and was spread rapidly by 26 mph winds, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Sam Padilla.
About 250 firefighters aided by six water-dropping aircraft were battling the blaze in 90-degree heat, Padilla said.
The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning of extreme fire hazard for the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties above 4,000 feet because of hot weather and low humidity.
