Palmdale is taking off
Re “Easing air traffic at LAX is a plan with a few glitches,” Sept. 10
The Times ignored the fact that L.A./Palmdale Regional Airport is located in the heart of the fastest-growing area in California. The airspace and roadways at L.A. International Airport are dangerously congested, and the full utilization of Ontario and Palmdale airports is the only viable means to provide for the future air traffic needs of our region.
In conjunction with the court-mandated end of future growth at LAX, Los Angeles World Airports allocated nearly $1 million to support the first phase of air service provided by United Airlines connecting Palmdale to San Francisco, an international hub. It is also expanding Ontario to meet the air transit needs of the San Gabriel Valley and neighboring counties. To address transit needs to and from Palmdale Airport, the high desert corridor connecting Interstates 5 and 15 through Palmdale, improvements to Highways 138 and 14 and enhanced rail service will provide air travelers an alternative to wrestling with 405 gridlock, limited parking options and dangerously overcrowded airspace, runways and gates at LAX.
