Honeywell finds alarm panels faulty

Honeywell International Inc. recalled about 1,000 control panels used in home alarm systems because of a faulty memory chip.

The Apex Destiny 6100 and 6100AN Security System Control Panels are used to sound an alarm during a fire or break-in. The chips, made by Xicor Inc. of Milpitas, Calif., might lose programming during a power outage of more than four hours, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The system failed to alert homeowners in at least three incidents, although no injuries or property damage were reported. The security systems were sold to alarm dealers from January to March, the statement said. Honeywell is contacting customers and providing replacement control panels.

Harry & David Operations Corp. of Medford, Ore., is recalling about 1,440 bags of Harry and David Hearthside Soups, Southwestern Chicken Chili Mix, because the bags may contain another chili soup mix. This mix contains whey, a milk ingredient not declared in the recalled soup mix. Consuming the recalled product can cause serious or life-threatening reactions in people with milk allergies.

The recalled bags, distributed throughout the United States from March 5 through Monday, have the lot code 8221-1.

About 400 “Moderne” and “Loft” cribs, imported and distributed by NettoCollection and made in Poland, were recalled because the crib slats can separate from the side rails, which poses an entrapment and strangulation hazard to children. The company has received three reports of the side rail spindles separating from the top rail. No injuries have been reported. The recalled cribs have model numbers NC-137 and NC-140 and date codes 9/03 and 02/04. Juvenile furniture stores nationwide sold the product.
