Sanchez strikes a chord with vets
Retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez, who spent a tumultuous year as the U.S. commander in Iraq, said that partisanship was preventing agreement on a strategy to help the United States take on the threat of Islamic extremism.
Sanchez drew a standing ovation with his speech in Corpus Christi at a veterans summit sponsored by Rep. Solomon P. Ortiz (D-Texas), and afterward was mobbed for autographs.
About 200 veterans and their families attended the event.
“My assessment is that we have a crisis in national political leadership. When will America recognize the danger we face?” Sanchez asked. “When will the corrosive partisanship of American politics end and allow for a bipartisan solution to arguably the most dangerous threat our nation has faced in over 60 years?”
