Six days remain before their regular-season opener against the Kings, with airplane rides totaling 13 hours and 5,400 miles yet to navigate, but the Ducks pronounced themselves ready to begin defense of their Stanley Cup.

At least it showed on the ice in their final exhibition tuneup Sunday night against the Vancouver Canucks in the form of a 5-0 victory in front of 17,030 at the Honda Center.

Ryan Getzlaf scored two goals and Todd Bertuzzi found the net for the first time with his new team as the Ducks scored three times on the power play to take advantage of a Vancouver lineup missing several regulars in a penalty-marred contest.

While realizing that the Canucks weren’t at full strength, the Ducks were all about feeling good about themselves before they leave for London tonight after finishing the exhibition season with a 3-3-1 record.

“Well, I think we needed that,” Bertuzzi said. “I don’t think we were playing up to our potential the last few games. It showed in the result.”

Said Coach Randy Carlyle: “It was a better effort than we’ve had so far this year.”

It was also about several players making a final case to join the Ducks overseas with few roster spots available despite injuries to veterans Mathieu Schneider, Samuel Pahlsson and Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

Bobby Ryan may have made a decisive argument for a spot up front with a four-assist night as he flourished on a line with Getzlaf and Bertuzzi. Two nights ago at San Jose, Ryan scored his only goal of the exhibition season.

With an opening on the wing created by the departure of Dustin Penner, the 20-year-old Ryan may have put off a trip to the minor leagues. Carlyle is expected to make his final cuts over the next 24 hours.

“As you’re getting down to the numbers for the London trip, you’re starting to realize that tonight’s the last time for them to trim guys down,” Ryan said. “We still haven’t heard anything and we’ll wait to hear something from someone.

“But, as of right now, I came into the game thinking I’m going and I’m going to leave it assuming I’m going, unless someone talks to me.”

The Ducks will carry three goaltenders and Jonas Hiller figures to at least be on the bench for Saturday’s opener with Giguere still recovering from hernia surgery. But it was his sterling, 40-save performance Sunday night that might have made a statement about his future here.

Signed in May, Hiller made several tough saves, including point-blank stops on Brad Isbister, Mike Brown and Taylor Pyatt in the second period and a nice glove save of a slapshot by Brendan Morrison in the third.

A product of the Swiss National League in his homeland, Hiller said he is becoming more comfortable with the smaller NHL rinks.

“I think I’m getting used to it. I think I can improve every day. That’s what I want to do,” he said.

Francois Beauchemin also scored a goal and pronounced himself ready after sitting out three days last week because of a sore groin. But the night may have been about Ryan, the No. 2 pick in the 2005 draft who joked that he’ll turn all his phones off so that he won’t receive the call to head to the minors.

“I’ll go home and reflect on camp tonight and hopefully be proud of what I did here,” Ryan said. “I’m going to hope to not get one. I’m just going to assume I’m going [to London] if I’m not getting a call.”
