Military deaths

The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq and Kuwait:

Michael T. Manibog, 31, of Alameda, Calif.; specialist, Army. Manibog was among four soldiers killed Feb. 8 when their Stryker vehicle was destroyed by a roadside bomb in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Timothy P. Martin, 27, of Pixley, Calif.; sergeant, Army. Martin was among four soldiers killed Feb. 8 when their Stryker vehicle was destroyed by a roadside bomb in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Corey E. Spates, 21, of LaGrange, Ga.; sergeant, Army. Spates was killed Feb. 10 when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Iraq’s Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Jack T. Sweet, 19, of Alexandria Bay, N.Y.; private first class, Army. Sweet was killed Feb. 8 when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Jawwalah, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Javares J. Washington, 27, of Pensacola, Fla.; staff sergeant, Army. Washington died Monday at Camp Buehring in Kuwait City, Kuwait, of injuries suffered in a vehicle accident. He was assigned to the 6th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

Jerald A. Whisenhunt, 32, of Orrick, Mo.; staff sergeant, Army. Whisenhunt was among four soldiers killed Feb. 8 when their Stryker vehicle was destroyed by a roadside bomb in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Gary D. Willett, 34, of Alamogordo, N.M.; sergeant, Army. Willett was among four soldiers killed Feb. 8 when their Stryker vehicle was destroyed by a roadside bomb in Taji, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
