* HIT: Jeff Quinney aced the 163-yard No. 6 with a seven-iron to take a lead on Phil Mickelson, which lasted only until Mickelson knocked an eight-iron to six feet and made his birdie putt.

* MISS: After making a double bogey at the eighth hole, Robert Allenby had some bad luck on the ninth when he missed the fairway with his drive, then knocked his second shot into the grassy lip of a greenside bunker and the ball was embedded. The 2001 champion wound up with a bogey on his way to a 75, falling from a tie for second to a tie for 23rd.
