WHERE THERE’S SMOKE
Dubfire, a.k.a. Ali Shirazinia, set the dance world on fire a decade ago as one-half of the influential house duo Deep Dish. Now he’s on his own -- burning up the club circuit with alt-rock-sounding tracks like “I Feel Speed,” an interpolation of a lesser-known Love & Rockets song. The Washington, D.C.-based artist is also a niche remixer, tweaking tracks from artists such as Nic Fanciulli and UNKLE. His 2007 release, Global Underground’s album “Taipei,” showcases his formidable mixing chops, on display at two SoCal gigs this week. Expect the beats to be minimal, danceable and hard-hitting. 10 tonight, Tentation in Newport Beach. $20. (949) 660-1010. Also: 10 p.m. Sat., Vanguard in Hollywood. $25. (323) 463-3331
