City may raze ‘nuisance’ home
Orange County’s smallest city may be forced to demolish a filthy home deemed unfit for habitation.
The Villa Park City Council voted Tuesday to hold a public hearing on whether to declare the house across from an elementary school a public nuisance. It’s been red-tagged.
Code enforcement officers found severe buildup of household debris, cat feces and food, dirt, dust and cobwebs in the home. Homeowner Mary Maloney was hospitalized earlier this month, and her son Kevin said his elderly mother was unable to maintain the home. He said the house probably would be razed.
Villa Park has a population of 6,251.
