at Boston 97, Houston 93: Kevin Garnett scored 11 of his 26 points in the last seven minutes, adding nine rebounds to help the Celtics to their seventh consecutive victory while also matching the best 30-game start (27-3) in the shot-clock era. Five other teams have lost only three of their first 30 games, including the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, who finished that season with an NBA-record 72 wins.
New Jersey 96, at Orlando 95: Jason Kidd finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists and made a key defensive stop and the Nets overcame a 15-point deficit. Kidd also set two career milestones, entering the game one assist shy of 9,000 and three rebounds short of Magic Johnson for fourth place on the career list for rebounds by a guard.
at Dallas 121, Golden State 99: Dirk Nowitzki had 29 points, eight rebounds and six assists in beating the Warriors in their first trip to Dallas since a historic upset of the Mavericks in last season’s playoffs. Dallas is 2-0 against Golden State after going 1-6 the past two regular seasons.
Portland 90, at Minnesota 79: After their 13-game winning streak was ended Monday at Utah, Brandon Roy scored 24 points and the Trail Blazers bounced back by holding the Timberwolves to season-low 35% shooting. Al Jefferson had 29 points and 16 rebounds for Minnesota.
Chicago 109, at Charlotte 97: Ben Gordon scored 22 points, Luol Deng added 21 points and 13 rebounds and the Bulls rallied from a 12-point third-quarter deficit to improve to 3-1 under interim Coach Jim Boylan. Bulls rookie Joakim Noah added a career-high 17 points and six rebounds.
Sacramento 107, at New York 97: John Salmons had a career-high 32 points for the Kings. The Knicks’ Zach Randolph was ejected after tossing his headband toward referee Tony Brothers. Stephon Marbury played his first game since Dec. 17. His absence followed his father’s death.
Milwaukee 103, at Miami 98: Mo Williams reminded the Heat why it tried to acquire him during the off-season, finishing with 25 points and nine assists in helping hand Miami a fifth straight loss. Dwyane Wade led Miami with 27 points but hurt his right pinkie and shoulder.
at Cleveland 98, Atlanta 94: LeBron James scored 32 of his 36 points in the second half and Larry Hughes made a jumper with 2:33 left to give the Cavaliers a three-point lead. James also made six straight free throws in the final 16.1 seconds to help hold off the Hawks.
Memphis 90, at Indiana 72: Pau Gasol scored 30 points to help the Grizzlies end a five-game losing streak while handing the Pacers their fifth straight loss. Memphis rookie Mike Conley had seven points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals in his first career start in his hometown.
at Utah 110, Philadelphia 107: Carlos Boozer scored 22 points, Deron Williams had a season-high 20 assists and newly acquired Kyle Korver made five free throws in the final 27 seconds against his former team to help the Jazz hold off the 76ers. Williams also scored 15 points.
Detroit 106, at Washington 93: The Pistons won their 10th consecutive game, improving to 25-7 overall and 17-2 against Eastern Conference opponents. Richard Hamilton led Detroit with 20 points.
New Orleans 95, at Clippers 81: The Hornets outrebounded the Clippers, 46-33, and made 25 of 27 free-throw attempts to win for the sixth time in seven games. The Clippers have lost eight of their past nine home games.
