Sprouting through

THE simple, modern vase is getting a lot more complex. Some new designs cradle their blooms in polka-dot cutouts, others sport trellis domes. At the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in May, designer-of-the-moment Jaime Hayon won fans with his forthcoming Grid collection, which includes some pieces that forgo the traditional opening on top.
The approach does have a purpose: The designs provide a framework to hold each stem in position, allowing minimalist flower arrangements to look like the picture of precision.
