QUALIFIED PRAISE FROM THE LBC
Despite the fact that I am waaaayyyyy out of your target demographic -- white hair, grandchildren, green-tea drinker -- nevertheless, I read (some parts of) The Guide every week.
So I was pleased to see references to attractions/locations in (my beloved) Long Beach in the July 17 issue [“The Enabler”].
Still, I did find the word hovel inappropriate and misleading describing the spots on Pine Avenue. How would anyone who doesn’t already know Long Beach know what/where you were describing?
Also, what does LBC mean (in this context)?

“The LBC” is the slang for your beloved city, first coined in rap songs. That makes the LBC cool. You might ask: Why the C? Some people say it’s a reference to the Long Beach City College shirts kids used to wear in the ‘hood. Others say it stands for Long Beach/Compton, Long Beach Crips or Long Beach City. To find out, could someone ask Snoop Dogg?
