Revving up the lineup

Though the writers strike is over, it will be a few more weeks before our favorite shows are up and running with all-new episodes. To tide us over, Fox has two shows debuting this week. Tonight, meet the wacky denizens of “Unhitched,” three guys and a gal trying to survive the post-divorce dating world. The brainchild of the Farrelly Brothers (“There’s Something About Mary,” “Dumb & Dumber”), “Unhitched” tries to find humor in, or inject it into, dating in your 30s. Think “Seinfeld,” only without Seinfeld, Boston instead of New York and a lot more butt jokes. A lot more.

For those in the mood for a police drama starring a 375-year-old yet still boyishly handsome man, “New Amsterdam” is the show for you. It premieres Tuesday before moving to its regular spot on Thursday. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau plays John Amsterdam, a New York homicide detective who came to Manhattan as a Dutch soldier in 1642. In exchange for saving the life of a Native American maiden, he is granted immortality until he can find his one true love -- which is not as much fun as it sounds. Still, it’s safe to say he knows the city like the back of his hand and there isn’t a whole lot he’s afraid of, being immortal and all. Poetic justice -- a cop who never dies in the city that never sleeps.
