* at Montreal 2, New Jersey 1: Andrei Kostitsyn’s power-play goal late in the third period helped the Canadiens move past the Devils into first place in the Eastern Conference. Mark Streit also scored for the Canadiens, who have won three in a row and seven of their last 10.
* Calgary 3, at Phoenix 1: Jarome Iginla scored twice, giving him his third 40-goal season, and Kristian Huselius added three assists for the Flames, who stopped a skid at two games after a four-game winning streak. The Flames limited the Coyotes to 17 shots.
* Nashville 3, at Dallas 1: David Legwand broke a scoreless tie early in the third period, and the Predators added two more goals in less than a minute to end a three-game losing streak. The Stars lost for the third time in 16 games and ended a four-game winning streak.
* San Jose 2, at St. Louis 0: Brian Boucher made 24 saves in his first start of the season for the Sharks, who won the last five games of an eight-game trip after dropping the first three. Coach Ron Wilson also set a franchise record with his 193rd victory, passing Darryl Sutter.
* Philadelphia 4, at New York Islanders 1: Jeff Carter scored a goal and set up Mike Knuble’s short-handed goal in the third period for the rebounding Flyers, who won their third straight after an 0-8-2 skid.
* at Boston 3, Atlanta 2 (SO): Bruins goalie Tim Thomas stopped NHL goal-scoring leader Ilya Kovalchuk on a last-chance shootout attempt to stretch Boston’s unbeaten streak to eight games (7-0-1).
* at Ottawa 5, Pittsburgh 4: Daniel Alfredsson had two goals and an assist, and the Senators ended a three-game skid. After winning six of eight, the Penguins have now lost four of five. The Senators won for only the third time in 10 games.
* at Carolina 5, Tampa Bay 1: Sergei Samsonov had two goals, Eric Staal had a goal and two assists, and the Hurricanes won for the fourth time in five games.
* Toronto 3, at Washington 2: Mats Sundin had a goal and two assists, and Bryan McCabe also had two assists for the Maple Leafs, who improved to 4-0-1 in their last five games.
* at Colorado 5, Kings 2: Colorado’s Joe Sakic scored his ninth goal of the season, and Ruslan Salei had his first goal in an Avalanche sweater.
