Hit-and-run suspect killed
Authorities Sunday were investigating an officer-involved shooting of a suspected hit-and-run driver in South Los Angeles.
The fatal shooting occurred about 7:30 p.m. Saturday near Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue. The driver of a sport utility vehicle reportedly hit several cars while speeding on Crenshaw. The suspect then led police on a chase before crashing into a tree.
When confronted, the suspect told police he had a weapon and officers eventually fired at him. The suspect died at the scene, police said.
Police had no information on how many cars were hit or how much damage was caused by the driver, said Officer Kate Lopez. The names of the suspect and the officers involved were not released. It was unclear how many officers fired.
