McCain back at a cherished base
MERIDIAN, MISS. — Republican presidential hopeful John McCain returned to his aviator roots Sunday, attending an air show at a field named after his grandfather.
The Arizona senator and his wife, Cindy, attended the “Wings Over Meridian” show at Naval Air Station Meridian’s McCain Field. He was a flight instructor at the field, which is named after the late Adm. John S. McCain Sr.
“I’m just here to see the air show, so it’s hard for me to get political,” said McCain, who shook hands with dozens of spectators and signed baseball caps. “It’s a great experience for me to be back.”
McCain is starting a tour of places around the country that have been important in his life.
