3 L.A. artists get fellowships
L.A.’s reputation as a visual arts capital was underscored by Monday’s announcement of the annual USA Fellowships awards: Three of the 10 awards in the visual arts category went to Angelenos (four went to New Yorkers).
The L.A. winners, each of whom will receive a $50,000 prize from United States Artists, an advocacy group, were Michael Asher, Andrea Bowers and Rodney McMillian.
Other Southern California winners were L.A.-based Harryette Mullen, a poet and UCLA English professor, and instrumentalist Wu Man, a master of the pipa, a Chinese lute.
In all, United States Artists granted $2.5 million to 50 artists.
