Legislator to run for Poizner’s post

Assemblyman Dave Jones (D-Sacramento) said Thursday he is running for California insurance commissioner in 2010 in anticipation of the Republican incumbent, Steve Poizner, running for governor.
“Californians should have a consumer champion as their insurance commissioner,” said Jones, who was reelected last week to a final term in the Assembly.
“I will use the full authority of the office to protect Californians from unfair insurance practices. It’s simply not right for insurers to take your money year after year and then deny you insurance coverage when you need it most . . .”
Jones, a graduate of Harvard Law School and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, has been chairman of the Assembly Judiciary Committee for four years.
