3-year-old girl hit by SUV dies
A 3-year-old girl who was struck by an SUV outside an elementary school has died, officials said Saturday.
Michelle Kwon of Diamond Bar died at 1:40 p.m. Thursday at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, said Larry Esslinger of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
At 7:48 a.m. Wednesday, the girl, her 5-year-old sister and father, Soonil Kwon, were on their way to Maple Hill Elementary when an SUV lost control and hit them, said deputies at the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Walnut station.
The girl’s father and sister were hospitalized but expected to survive, Williams said.
Sheriff’s investigators concluded that the driver had inadvertently caused the accident; the driver was released and not cited, Williams said.
