30-year mortgage rates leap

Rates on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 6.46% this week, up from 6.04% last week and the highest level since the week of Oct. 16, mortgage company Freddie Mac said.

Average rates on 15-year fixed-rate mortgages, popular with people who are refinancing, rose to 6.19% from 5.72% last week. Five-year adjustable-rate mortgages averaged 6.36%, up from 6.06%. One-year adjustable-rate mortgages rose to 5.38% from 5.23%.

These rates do not include add-on fees known as points. The nationwide fee for 30-year, 15-year and five-year mortgages averaged 0.7 of a point. One-year adjustable-rate mortgages averaged 0.6 of a point.
