Today

History walk: “Walk to Los Angeles” commemorates the 227th anniversary of the founding of Los Angeles. The 9-mile walk reenacts the settlers’ trek from the San Gabriel Mission to the Los Angeles River, where Los Angeles was founded in 1781.

Labor Day breakfast: The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor sponsors a meal, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

Tuesday

Walk of Honor: Lancaster city officials announce the year’s Aerospace Walk of Honor inductees.

Wilderness area: The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors considers opposing two pieces of state legislation that would designate 473,000 acres of public land as “wilderness areas.”

Wednesday

General plan: The Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission is briefed on the county Draft General Plan.

Westside traffic: Metropolitan Transportation Authority conducts a community update meeting on the Westside Extension Transit Corridor Study at the Santa Monica Public Library.

Thursday

Palladium: The Community Redevelopment Agency considers plans for the landmark Hollywood Palladium.

Foster care: Councilwoman Wendy Greuel holds a panel discussion and Q&A; session on foster care as part of a series of public workshops held by the Los Angeles Human Relations Commission and Los Angeles Animal Services at the Studio City Branch Library.

Saturday

South Asians: Friends of the South Asian American Communities holds its fifth annual awards banquet. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Maneka Ganshi, a member of Parliament in India, are expected to attend in Beverly Hills.

What did the new U.S. Census data say about the median household income in Southern California?

Between 2000 and 2007, median household income increased somewhat in Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside counties, but declined slightly in Orange and Ventura counties. Statewide, income also declined slightly. But Orange and Ventura counties continued to have significantly higher housing incomes. In 2007, L.A. County’s median income was $53,573 while Orange County’s was $73,263.
