Panhandler is arrested in shooting
A woman panhandling in downtown Sacramento was arrested after police said she shot a disabled man who refused to give her money.
Yuba County resident Frank Perez, 54, who has cerebral palsy and uses a cane, was sitting on a bench and waiting for a bus Monday afternoon when he was approached by a woman asking for cash.
Sacramento police said Audrey Jackson, 47, shot Perez in the abdomen when he refused her request. The shooting scattered the crowd at the bus stop. Jackson was arrested after a regional transit driver spotted her on his bus a short time later.
Perez underwent surgery, and family members say he is expected to recover.
