at Chicago 5, Cleveland 1: Mark Buehrle (15-12) won on three days’ rest, Paul Konerko hit his fourth home run in three games and Jermaine Dye had a two-run single to lead the White Sox, who play host to Detroit today in a makeup game. If Chicago wins, it will play host to Minnesota on Tuesday to determine the American League Central winner and opponent for Tampa Bay in the division playoffs.
at Minnesota 6, Kansas City 0: Scott Baker (11-4) scattered four singles over seven shutout innings to help the Twins preserve their half-game lead in the AL Central over Chicago. Delmon Young’s two-run single and Joe Mauer’s two-run triple gave Baker a cushion.
Tampa Bay 8, at Detroit 7 (11 innings): Ben Zobrist hit a go-ahead single in the Rays’ four-run eighth and had a solo home run in the 11th.
New York 6-3, at Boston 2-4 (second game 10 innings): Mike Mussina (20-9) gave up three hits in six shutout innings to lead the Yankees in the first game and Jonathan Van Every’s bases-loaded single with two out in the 10th inning lifted the Red Sox in the second game. The Yankees (89-73) had won 90 games six consecutive seasons.
at Seattle 4, Oakland 3: Ichiro Suzuki had two hits and scored the go-ahead run, in the fifth inning. Oakland lost 44 of its last 68 games.
Toronto 10, at Baltimore 1: Vernon Wells was four for four, including two home runs, and drove in five runs.
at Angels 7, Texas 0: Mike Napoli hit a home run to help the Angels post a team-record 100 wins.
