Supermarket prices for 16 basic foods fell for a second straight quarter, led by declines in milk, cheese, eggs and vegetable oil, the American Farm Bureau Federation said.

The average cost of items bought by a typical consumer each week fell 5.6% to $47.41 in the first quarter from three months earlier, the group said. Costs fell 6 cents from a year earlier and 7.1% from a record $51.02 in the third quarter.
