at Chicago 10, Toronto 2: Alexei Ramirez hit his fifth grand slam and drove in a career-high five runs, and Jermaine Dye hit a two-run homer for the White Sox. Ramirez needed only 152 games to reach five grand slams, the second-fastest in major league history.
at Oakland 5, Tampa Bay 2: Jason Giambi hit the first home run of his second stint with the Athletics, Nomar Garciaparra hit a three-run double and the A’s ended a five-game skid.
Texas 6, at Baltimore 5: Ian Kinsler homered twice and the Rangers led off the first three innings with home runs against Mark Hendrickson.
Minnesota 7, at Cleveland 1: Kevin Slowey pitched eight sharp innings and Jason Kubel hit two solo homers for the Twins. Slowey (3-0) carried a five-hit shutout into the ninth but gave up three singles to open the inning before departing.
Detroit 9, at Kansas City 1: Gerald Laird and Curtis Granderson hit two-run homers and Magglio Ordonez a solo shot for the Tigers.
Seattle 9, at Angels 8: The Angels scored five runs in the final three innings, but their rally fell short.
