New York 8, at Detroit 6: Nick Swisher hit two homers and Joba Chamberlain gave up a run in seven innings for the Yankees. Swisher hit a three-run homer in the seven-run fourth and added a solo shot in the fifth, giving him a team-high seven home runs.

at Chicago 6, Seattle 3: Carlos Quentin and Jermaine Dye hit consecutive home runs in the seventh inning and A.J. Pierzynski also homered for the White Sox.

Boston 6, at Cleveland 5 (10 innings): Jonathan Van Every hit his first major league home run in the 10th inning to give the Red Sox the win. Before the game, the Indians put Travis Hafner on the disabled list.

at Minnesota 8, Tampa Bay 3: Justin Morneau had three hits, a walk and an RBI for the Twins, who took two of three from the defending AL champions.

Oakland at Texas, ppd.: The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader May 29. The rainout was well-timed for the short-handed A’s, who earlier put Nomar Garciaparra and Mark Ellis on the 15-day disabled list.

Angels 3, at Baltimore 2: Shane Loux earned his first win since 2003.
