Indians cap emotional day with dramatic win
at Cleveland 6, Detroit 5 (13 innings): Jamey Carroll’s RBI single in the 13th won it for the Indians, capping an emotional day for the team that traded popular All-Star catcher Victor Martinez to Boston before the non-waiver deadline. Carlos Guillen’s two-run homer in the ninth against Cleveland closer Kerry Wood sent the game into extra innings.
Boston 6, at Baltimore 5: Kevin Youkilis put the Red Sox ahead with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, and John Smoltz (2-4) got his second win in seven starts for Boston. David Ortiz and Jacoby Ellsbury also homered.
at Tampa Bay 8, Kansas City 2: David Price gave up one run over seven innings and Carlos Pena hit a three-run homer for the Rays.
at Texas 5, Seattle 4: Marlon Byrd’s three-run homer in the fifth inning broke a tie and the Rangers held on to beat the Mariners.
at Oakland 8, Toronto 5: Ryan Sweeney drove in three runs and Andrew Bailey notched his 14th save for the Athletics.
Angels 11, at Minnesota 5 (11 innings): The Angels have come from behind in 13 of their last 18 victories.
