Hot pix for 2010
“Shutter Island”
Another thriller from Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. I’m there. (Feb. 19)
“Alice in Wonderland”
Tim Burton and Lewis Carroll -- such an obvious pairing it’s amazing it took this long. Not a remake but a sequel, with an older Alice revisiting the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp, natch) and the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter). (March 5)
“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”
The Swedish film of the international bestseller is scheduled for an American remake, so, assuming you can read subtitles, catch the terrific original first. Tell everyone: This is better than “Tell No One.” (March)
“Machete”
Robert Rodriguez spins his own fake trailer into a film with a bananas-weird cast. (April 16)
“Iron Man 2”
Downey and the rest of the crew return for this sequel to the most excellent 2008 hit. (May 7)
“Mother”
Bong Joon-ho (“The Host”) channels Chabrol (and, by extension, Hitchcock) in this deliberately paced thriller about just how far a mom will go to protect her son. (spring)
