How to connect electronic components

If you received a TV, DVD player or other electronic device for the holidays, you may find yourself wrestling with wires and cables trying to connect the new equipment to what you already have.

Wirewize aims to help, offering connection instructions for your exact combination of electronic components.

At the home page, click on “Get started.” Then select the type of components you are trying to connect -- TV, DVD player, audio/video receiver, game console, cable or satellite box, or “other” (VCRs, turntables and CD and tape players).

For each component, specify the manufacturer and model. Once you’ve entered all your components, click on “I’m done” and choose the “connections” tab to see how to hook up your devices.

The site is free, though it does offer to sell you the cables you might need. By registering, you can save your configuration so you can modify it later.
