‘Sabrina’
Is it just me, or are there moments every summer when the desire to escape life as you know it absolutely overwhelms? You’ve already seen every decent film out there and a few that aren’t. Take heart and time travel back to the ‘50s with the lovely “Sabrina” and the sweet innocence of Audrey Hepburn and a different sort of moviemaking entirely -- quieter, gentler, careful with its emotional punches. As the chauffeur’s daughter caught between the wealthy playboy (William Holden) and his serious older brother (Humphrey Bogart), this playful love triangle is a heavenly concoction. Besides, watching the black-and-white Billy Wilder film feels like sitting under the stars on a balmy night. It’s part of AFI’s 1950s Glamour series at ArcLight Hollywood on Wednesday. So for one night only, sit in the dark and let yourself escape.
