‘Ivan the Terrible’
Few things are rarer these days than the opportunity to watch the vivid classics of film history, especially those that have to be subtitled, on a big screen. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Bing Theater has one of the biggest and it’s being put to excellent use this weekend with a rare screening of a new 35-millimeter print of both parts of Sergei Eisenstein’s classic “Ivan the Terrible.” Visually stunning and graced with a fine score by Sergei Prokofiev, this story of the life and hard times of Russia’s celebrated 16th century ruler plays at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
