CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / SAN GABRIEL VALLEY
Early Sunday, authorities said, 85-year-old James Lu picked up the phone and made a startling confession to deputies: He had just killed his wife.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies went to Lu’s home in the 100 block of Rosemead Boulevard, sandwiched between Pasadena and Arcadia in an unincorporated part of the county. They found Lu’s wife, 55-year-old Michelle Lu, with multiple stab wounds to her body, according to the department.
Investigators also found a hatchet they believe the 5-foot, 4-inch tall, 130-pound Lu used to kill his wife.
He was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Lt. Dan Rosenberg said investigators believe the killing stemmed from a domestic dispute and described the incident as a “very, very tragic situation.”
Michelle Lu was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband is being held without bail.
