Konerko, Beckham power White Sox
DETROIT — Paul Konerko hit a two-run home run in Chicago’s four-run first inning, Gordon Beckham hit a home run in the second inning and the White Sox coasted to a 5-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday night and avoided a sweep.
Clayton Richard (4-3) gave up a run and five hits over eight innings to help the White Sox salvage one victory in a four-game series.
Konerko took advantage of a 3-and-1 count by sending a Rick Porcello pitch 402 feet to left-center field for his 19th home run to end an 0-for-13 slump and put Chicago ahead, 4-0.
Beckham’s drive to left field was his fourth home run and provided Clayton with more than enough support.
