Top performance: At the Pasadena Games, Randall Carroll of Los Angeles Cathedral won the 100 meters in 10.54 seconds and also took the 200 in 21.79.
The scoop: It was Carroll’s first big meet of the season, and both times rank as the fastest in the state. He’s the defending state champion in the 100 and 200, when he won with times of 10.42 and 20.91. He’s headed to UCLA on a football scholarship.
Why it matters: Carroll will face a strong challenge at the state championships June 5-6 in Bakersfield from last year’s 100 runner-up, Charles Saseun of Rancho Cucamonga.
