Top contributors: Chad Lewis of Marina hit a two-run home run. Pablo Conteras of Marina had a two-run single. Paul Strong of Marina threw a complete game, striking out eight. Kurt Heyer of Edison threw a complete game, striking out seven.

The scoop: Lewis’ home run to right field with one out in the sixth inning off Heyer wiped out a 3-2 deficit and enabled Marina to pull into a tie for first place with Edison in the Sunset League. “Thank God it went out,” Lewis said. “I was praying when I rounded first. We were really stressing out going into this game. It was a really big game.”

Why it matters: The Sunset League champion should be awarded one of the top four seedings for the Southern Section Division I playoffs. Edison holds the tiebreaker edge with four games to play.

Records: Marina 19-3, 9-2; Edison 16-4, 9-2.
